Big Blow for pakistan

Pakistan’s cricket team has received a major setback right before their three-match Test series against England. Star batter and captain Babar Azam has been officially ruled out of the first Test match at Headingley, Leeds, after failing to recover from a finger injury.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) medical staff evaluated his progress leading up to match day. While tests confirmed that his finger is not broken, painful swelling continues to limit his grip and mobility, making it impossible for him to play. In his absence, vice-captain and all-rounder Salman Ali Agha will step up to captain Pakistan for the very first time in Test cricket.

How the Injury Happened

The injury occurred during Pakistan's three-day warm-up match against the County Select XI in Beckenham. While batting, Babar was struck hard on the right hand by a delivery from England Under-19 pacer Manny Lumsden. He immediately dropped his bat in pain and was escorted off the field by team medical staff after scoring five runs.

This was the second time in less than a month that Babar suffered a blow on the exact same hand, having previously been hit during the second Test against the West Indies. Although he attempted a brief net session at Headingley, the team management decided against risking their key player for the long tour.

Head Coach Sarfaraz Ahmed's Statement

Speaking to reporters in Leeds, Pakistan's head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed explained the decision to keep Babar on the sidelines:

"Pakistan captain Babar Azam is unavailable for the first Test match. Salman Agha will be the captain for the first Test. The finger is not broken, but there is still a bit of swelling. The medical team is assessing him, and hopefully, he will recover in time for the second Test at Lord's."
