The federal government has once again increased petroleum prices in Pakistan, raising the price of petrol by Rs14.92 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs15 per litre.
According to the latest notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the new prices became effective from May 9. After the increase, petrol is now available at Rs414.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel has reached Rs414.58 per litre.
The rise in fuel prices is expected to directly impact transportation fares, daily commuting expenses, and the prices of essential goods across the country. Petrol is commonly used in motorcycles, rickshaws, and private vehicles, making the increase especially difficult for middle and lower-middle-income families.
High-speed diesel, which powers heavy transport vehicles, buses, trucks, and industrial generators, is also expected to increase logistics and business operating costs nationwide.

The recent increase follows several revisions in petroleum prices over the past months due to global oil market instability and regional tensions affecting international fuel supply chains.
Earlier this year, the government implemented multiple fuel adjustments after rising crude oil prices in the global market. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had previously reduced petroleum levy charges to provide temporary relief to the public, but continued international pressure has resulted in another significant hike.
Economic experts believe the latest increase may further contribute to inflation, higher transportation costs, and increased prices of daily-use commodities in local markets.
Citizens across Pakistan have expressed concern over the continuous rise in fuel prices, especially as electricity bills and overall living expenses continue to increase.
