Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has expressed optimism about the possibility of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran, stating that Pakistan would emerge as one of the key beneficiaries of regional stability and improved diplomatic relations.
Speaking during a television interview, the minister said that a peaceful resolution between Washington and Tehran would not only reduce tensions in the Middle East but also strengthen Pakistan’s economic and security position.
According to Asif, Pakistan shares deep historical, geographical and diplomatic ties with Iran, and stability in the region would create new opportunities for trade, energy cooperation and border security.
Pakistan Expected to Gain Economic Benefits
The defense minister stated that if sanctions on Iran were eased after a diplomatic agreement, Pakistan could potentially import oil, gas and other commodities directly from Iran through land routes. He noted that such cooperation would help reduce dependence on expensive international markets and strengthen regional trade connectivity.
He added that one of the biggest advantages for Pakistan would be improved security along the Pakistan-Iran border, which has faced occasional security challenges in recent years.
Pakistan’s Growing Diplomatic Role
Khawaja Asif also highlighted Pakistan’s role in encouraging dialogue and reducing tensions between regional powers. He said Pakistan had maintained balanced relations with both Iran and the United States while promoting peace efforts through diplomatic channels.
The minister claimed that Pakistan’s international image had improved significantly following last year’s military confrontation with India, describing it as a turning point that increased global confidence in Pakistan’s strategic capabilities.
According to him, several countries now view Pakistan as an important regional player capable of contributing to peace negotiations and conflict resolution.
Remarks on Regional Security
During the interview, Asif also discussed regional security concerns, including the situation along the borders with Afghanistan and India. He said Pakistan continues diplomatic engagement with neighboring countries to improve stability and counter security threats.
He stressed that regional peace and secure borders are essential for economic growth and long-term development in South Asia.
Political analysts believe that any successful diplomatic breakthrough between the US and Iran could reshape regional alliances and positively impact trade, energy supply and security cooperation across the region.
